What teams need to reach Stockholm - UPDATE

ROAD MAP: While Croatia, Spain and Norway head to the semi-finals and Germany join them for the final weekend, there is still a lot to play for in the Malmö group

Croatia, Spain and Norway have already qualified for the EHF EURO 2020 semi-finals with one main round games still in their hands. Germany will join the three teams on the trip to Stockholm and play in the 5/6 placement match.

In group II in Malmö it takes until the last games on Wednesday before the teams competing for the medal round are sure of their place.

Here, we provide a detailed road map for those sides ahead of their last matches in the main round. This story will be regularly updated.

GROUP I - Vienna

Croatia – through to the semi-finals

Spain – through to the semi-finals

Germany – out of the semi-final race, will play 5/6 Placement match

Belarus – out of the semi-final race, will finish either fourth or fifth in the group

Austria – out of the semi-final race, will finish either fourth or fifth in the group

Czech Republic – out of the semi-final race, will finish sixth in the group

 

GROUP II - Malmö 

Norway -  through to the semi-finals 

Slovenia - through to the semi-finals

  • if Hungary do not beat Portugal
  • if Hungary beat Portugal AND Slovenia do not lose to Norway

If Slovenia lose to Norway and Hungary beat Portugal, Slovenia will play in the 5/6 Placement match against Germany.

Hungary - through to the semi-finals

  • if they beat Portugal AND Slovenia lose to Norway

If Hungary tie with Portugal OR lose by fewer than five goals AND Iceland beat Sweden, Hungary will play in the 5/6 Placement match against Germany.

Portugal - out of the semi-final race, but can still reach the 5/6 Placement match

  • if they beat Hungary AND Sweden do not lose to Iceland
  • if they beat Hungary by at least five goals 

Iceland - can neither reach the semi-finals, nor the 5/6 Placement match anymore

Sweden - can neither reach the semi-finals, nor the 5/6 Placement match anymore
